Since the MAGA Justices on the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022, and with it our freedom to decide what happens to our bodies, health, and lives, MAGA Republicans have doubled down on their efforts to control us and decide our futures for us. 

We must refuse and resist this regime. 

For decades I have advocated for the personhood of the people who get pregnant – fighting laws that would prevent them from having safe abortions, challenging arrests of women who had abortions, experienced miscarriages, and women who, despite having given birth to healthy babies, were arrested or had their children taken from them because they allegedly did something “wrong” when living while pregnant. 

These cases have been happening for decades. Trump’s Supreme Court justices and his MAGA minions have cleared the way for more.

And they do not just want to take away the right to abortion. They want to take away everything we value about our lives in the United States. MAGA Republicans want to take away privacy in our personal medical information; the freedom to decide what happens to our own bodies; the freedom to travel as well as freedom from government surveillance, arrest, forced treatment and family separation – all in the name of rights for fertilized eggs, embryos (including frozen ones) and fetuses. 

The reason why we had nearly 50 years of protection for the right to choose abortion is not because some court “gave” us these rights: It is because we flexed our collective power to ensure and protect our reproductive freedoms. 

Through legal advocacy, education, and organizing with numerous allied organizations across many issues – including racial justice, drug policy reform, domestic violence, mass incarceration, and disability and LGBTQ rights – I have helped to free women from jail, stop punitive child welfare interventions, and achieve justice for women subjected to forced cesareans and other forced medical interventions.

By joining together again, we can make this a country where all of us are free to make decisions about our bodies; Where no one fears arrest, detention, family separation or forced medical interventions because of pregnancy or any outcome of pregnancy; Where all families are cared for, no exceptions.
